Text in images

If you have text in an image, the bots can't read it, and neither can screen readers. So please don't do it, especially with important information. Here's an example from Tameside's Local Offer. The image with the text is hard to read visually, and impossible for technology.

Can I just say again, I'm not being critical of the people who did this. We don't know what we don't know.

In the Local Offer there are probably two places where you can use text in an image.

Logo

Here's the logo from the Dudley Local Offer. The logo is not used as a home button. I would make the Alt Text say "Dudley Local Offer Dog and Rainbow Logo".

Buttons

Where buttons are made from images the function of the button must be clear in the code. The fact is, most buttons are now made using machine readable text, not an image of text, so this is unlikely to be a problem.
